Rejoice
The rose-coloured candle
Every Sunday of Advent is dear to me, but the rose-coloured Sunday? There’s a deeply seated love for Gaudete in my heart. Today, the Church reminds us that while we wait for the coming (birth) of our Lord, while we light our candles in hope, and wait like the ten virgins, we still have to rejoice. Rejoice in the sure hope that Christ never fails.
The reading today talks of John the Baptist, asking for a sort of confirmation on the works of Christ. Probably because John would have taken a much different approach, and Jesus’ response tells him that truly he is the Messiah. It passes a message that could be interpreted as “already but not yet”. The hour had not yet come, but He was with them. Christ is not yet born, but He will be born and will set the captives free.
The church opts for rose-coloured vestments today as on Laetare Sunday (during Lent), instead of the purple colours for Advent, because while purple reminds us of penance and preparation, rose calls us to rejoice. In a way, it softens the penitential tone of the season and brings light and joy to our hearts.
Lastly, I’d like to remind us all not to keep that joy to ourselves alone. Share it, make someone happy, make your neighbour smile. The joy of Christ’s coming should so fill our hearts that we can’t help but reflect and redistribute it to all.

Yeah, I was wondering why Catholics were wearing pink/rose this last Sunday. I'm Anglican. I was going to check for what Gaudete(?) Sunday is but I haven't yet. Thank you for shedding light! ❤️
Of course, you’re welcomeeee🤗
